Trauma Therapy

I provide individual trauma therapy for adults whose experiences continue to affect their daily lives, whether or not they have a formal PTSD diagnosis.

About this service

Trauma Therapy

Individual therapy for single, repeated, childhood, occupational, medical, relationship, and other traumatic experiences.

I provide individual trauma therapy for adults who have experienced a single traumatic event, repeated or prolonged trauma, childhood trauma, abuse, domestic violence, traumatic loss, workplace or occupational trauma, first responder trauma, medical trauma, relationship trauma, or other experiences that continue to affect their daily lives.

Clients do not have to have a formal PTSD diagnosis to benefit from trauma therapy. Some people know exactly what experience they want to address, while others recognize patterns in their lives that may be connected to things they have experienced.

What it is

Individual trauma therapy for adults whose experiences continue to affect their daily lives, whether or not they have a formal PTSD diagnosis.

Who it serves

Adults who have experienced a single traumatic event, repeated or prolonged trauma, childhood trauma, abuse, domestic violence, traumatic loss, workplace or occupational trauma, first responder trauma, medical trauma, relationship trauma, or other experiences that continue to affect their daily lives.

How it starts

I begin by getting to know the person, their history, what is currently happening, how their experiences are affecting them, and what they want their life to look like if therapy is successful.

Common experiences

What You May Be Experiencing

  • “I can’t stop thinking about what happened.”

  • “I just want to feel normal again.”

  • “I don’t feel like myself anymore.”

  • “I thought I was over this.”

Trauma-informed care

You do not have to tell everything at once

Treatment is individualized. I do not use the same trauma protocol with every client. Depending on your needs, I may incorporate CBT, trauma-focused CBT, Cognitive Processing Therapy, ACT, DBT skills, motivational interviewing, exposure-based strategies, solution-focused therapy, psychoeducation, grounding and emotional-regulation skills, and other trauma-informed interventions.

Early treatment may focus on establishing safety, understanding trauma responses, identifying triggers, improving sleep, decreasing anxiety and hypervigilance, developing coping and emotional-regulation skills, and helping the client reconnect with themselves and others.

I don’t believe trauma treatment requires someone to walk into the first session and immediately tell me every detail of the worst thing that has ever happened to them. Trust and connection are especially important in trauma work. We start where the client is, establish a relationship, and move through treatment at a pace that is clinically appropriate for that individual.

What healing can make room for

Reducing the power the past has over the present

My role isn’t to tell someone how they should feel about what happened or what healing should look like for them. I help them understand what happened, recognize how it continues to affect their present life, develop the skills they need, and process the experiences that are keeping them stuck.

Ultimately, the goal of trauma therapy is not to erase the past. It is to reduce the power the past has over the present. I want clients to be able to feel safe again, connect with other people, experience their emotions without being overwhelmed by them, sleep without constantly being on alert, develop healthier relationships and boundaries, and participate in their lives instead of simply surviving them.

Services are provided through individual telehealth psychotherapy to adults in Missouri, with treatment frequency and duration determined by the client’s individual needs, goals, symptoms, and progress.
