Anxiety Therapy: Finding Calm When Your Mind Won't Shut Off

You can learn ways to slow the cycle of worry and make more room for rest, focus, and daily life.

About this service

Anxiety Therapy

Individual therapy for anxiety that interferes with sleep, concentration, connection, decisions, or everyday life.

I provide individual therapy for adults experiencing anxiety that has begun interfering with their ability to relax, sleep, concentrate, connect with others, make decisions, participate in activities, or simply enjoy their lives.

Anxiety can look like constant worry and overthinking, physical alarm responses, panic, fear of judgment, avoidance, or a mind that keeps asking “What if?” Sometimes it follows trauma or prolonged stress, and sometimes it has been present for as long as someone can remember.

What it is

Individual therapy for adults experiencing anxiety that interferes with relaxation, sleep, concentration, connection, decisions, activities, or enjoyment.

Who it serves

Adults experiencing worry, overthinking, physical anxiety, panic, social anxiety, avoidance, or fear that has begun limiting their lives.

How it starts

I begin by understanding what triggers anxiety, what your mind and body do when it appears, what you do to cope, and how those strategies may keep the anxiety cycle going.

If your concerns are connected to past experiences, trauma therapy for adults in Missouri can provide a broader starting point.

Common experiences

What You May Be Experiencing

  • “I can’t shut my brain off.”

  • “I overthink everything.”

  • “I worry about things I know probably aren’t going to happen.”

  • “My brain immediately goes to the worst-case scenario.”

Anxiety treatment

Understanding your anxiety is where we begin

Therapy begins with understanding your anxiety—what triggers it, what your mind and body do when it appears, what you do to cope with it, and how those coping strategies may unintentionally be keeping the anxiety cycle going.

Treatment may include learning practical ways to calm the body’s stress response, identifying and challenging anxious thought patterns, decreasing avoidance, building tolerance for uncertainty and uncomfortable feelings, improving emotional regulation, and gradually returning to situations anxiety has caused you to avoid.

There isn’t one right way to treat every person’s anxiety. Approaches are chosen around what maintains it and what you want to be able to do.

Beyond the anxiety cycle

When fear no longer makes your decisions

My goal isn’t to promise someone they will never feel anxious again. Anxiety is a normal human emotion and sometimes an important warning system. The goal is to help clients recognize when anxiety is useful and when it has taken over, develop the skills to manage it, and reach a point where fear no longer gets to make their decisions for them.
